IRS Reports on Non-Cash Gifts |
 |
By Dan Mirgon, CFRE
In a brand new report, the Internal Revenue Service finally
studied tax returns that included gifts of non- cash items.
Many charitable organizations have sought gifts of publicly
traded securities, real estate, and many other gift-types over the
years.
Until now, the IRS has never reported on the numbers and sizes
of these gifts, leaving it up to individual organizations to learn
from each other about the results.
Illustrating why ministries need to offer their major donors a
way to lower the cost of their giving, these Gifts of
Appreciated Property are considered "planned gifts", and are
received into the annual fund in the year given.
What an excellent way to serve the donors who want to help you,
but need to do it at a lower cost.
